Default Timing

I know every motor is different but roughly what is the max initial timing for my setup with 93 octane.

Like you said, it's all going to depend on your car. Two cars with similar or the same setup could have different results. Personally, with your setup, I wouldn't go past 14 degrees or so. But some can get away with a couple more with no detonation. What is it at now?

I've got my stock 5L at 15 deg of timing. It ran 102mph with 87 octane.

I've floored it in 5th below 2000rpm. No signs of detonation.

On average, people tend to see 1 - 2 HP per degree (up to a certain point.) If you bumped it 4 degrees, you would see maybe 8ish rwhp plus you would feel better throttle response and torque. It's not a huge difference, but it does make a difference.

But like i said, the limits are different for everyone. Look at the post above yours. He's running 15 degrees on 87 octane and is probably seeing a 10 HP gain. Not bad really. And he could probabyl squeeze more out of premium gas.

Or in my situation, i can get even more than that thanks to methanol.

im running 15 with 93 octane, if i get cheaper gas it pings. if its a hot day (90-100deg) it will ping at high rpm. i probably should be at 14..
