Default coolant

my 88 for some reason loves to drink engine coolant. i top it of fully run the car for a bit like take it for a drive wat ever, check the coolant fill box and ittll be next to empty. i opened the cap on the rad and it seems to be fine its nice and full. is this mean im just low and i have to add untill i fill the system or something. another thing is that when ever i start my car i get a nice load of water coming out from the exhaust and its slightly brown. i know a little is ok but if i get alot does it mean i might be leaing coolant?

Default RE: coolant

most likely a head gasket if you are not leaking coolant. Do a cooling system pressure test to find any possible leaks. If no leaks externally, then pressurize each cylinder to find a presure leak into the cooling system which will indicate a failed head gasket. The coolant has to be going somewhere..lol
