new harmonic balancer didn't stop vibrations
well i just replaced my balancer because i thought it would stop my car from vibrating.. but no such luck, i had a guy at a race shop look at it before i did the balancer and he told me my crankshaft was moving back and forth now when i replaced the balancer i noticed there was a little oil bleediing through the main seal... so i just wanted to know if there was anything else it could be before i have to buy a new motor or rebuild
thanks

RE: new harmonic balancer didn't stop vibrations
You did buy the correct one didnt you? a 50 oz. Also check the flywheel it has to be a 50 oz. also. That is if the car is an 82? up. They change it in either 82 or 85 from a 28 oz. to a 50 oz. A 351 also uses the 28 oz.

If your crank is moving back & forth you should here a knock from about 2500rpm & up. Might be faint though. Try bringing the rpms up by hand at the carb/throttle body. I recently had this problem with a fresh 400 sbc (i know, i know) but it didnt have a vibration.
Bad u-joints will cause a vibration in the higher rpm range especially on the highway at 3000+.
Also possibly out of balance. Maybe balancer or flywheel was defective or packaged wrong.
