Default NOT A FORD!!!!

like it says not a ford but my 01 grandam v6 has started creating valve clatter during start up. i use 10w30 which oil should i go with to lesson the noise?? yea its a bs fix but not trying to spend money on it. Manf say 5w30 so which one to help with problem.. A motor is a motor so i figured id ask my fox friends.

you could do that, if its only at startup it wont help much. they make noise becase the oil drains back down to the pan after it sits. some oil stabalizers help a little bit (lucas, stp, etc)if it makes noise after its running thats a whole different thing.i wouldntworry about it to much. its a grand am.

Thanks but let me clearfy it might have clatter during acceleration but just not loud enough for me to hear it.

If it chatters just during startup then you have some lifters leaking down. I'm not sure if you can fix that by changing to a different kind of oil. I always just changed the lifters. If it's doing it under acceleration then it's your gas. I'd try filling it up with 93 oct. one time and see if it goes away. If not then I guess you could try a little thicker oil and maybe it won't leak out of the lifters.
