BssAckwards Aftermarket fuel level guage
This is completely screwed up. I just bought an aftermarket fuel level guage. It has Ford on the front of the box. I hooked it up to my sender unit and with the floater all the way down/empty the guage will read 3/4 of a tank of gas. When I pull the floater up/Full it will peg the needle on the guage past the E mark.
The instructions say that the sender should read 73 ohms on empty and 10 ohms on full, but when I hook the meter up it reads 160 ohms on full and 15 ohms on empty. Both of my fuel senders do that. I tested them both just in case.
Any ideas what I can do? The new guage does at least work with the sender, it's just reading it backwards.

Maybe the wires are backwards, what happens if you hook them up the other way. Maybe your actual sending unit is bad or you have a grounding issue somewhere in the wiring.

I tried flipping the wires around to see if that would help, but all it did was peg the guage past the full line. There is only one way to wire the guage up.
As far as the sender goes, both of the ones I have read the exact same ohms at full(160 OHMS)and empty(15 OHMS). I'm guessing that the guage has a different resistance level then the senders and that's why it's working backwards. At this point I don't care anymore. I can at least see my gas guage working. I'll just have to remember that it works backwards.
