there is no design flaw. A part has rotted after 14 years of sitting in gasoline


Id do a whole new setup,


1. Complete Pump Assembly with all included gaskets and o -rings applicable

2.fuel tank lock ring $19



3.Fuel Tank $93.00


4.fuel tank straps $17.00


5. Fuel Tank Bolts (2) $1.99

6. Fuel Filter with clips $ 7.00

Thanks aode06, I actually love rockauto.com and checked there tonite for everything you just listed. It isn't alot of money at all and will be definately doing it.
@onefine89mustang, a quarter of a tank isn't all that low to run your tank, but if I was able to see how much gas I had right now, since my sending unit is not working, trust me, I wouldn't let it get to a quarter tank at all. LOL

wow i have this same problem. when i take turns i can hear something rolling around in the rear, but i cant figure out wtf it is! also my sending unit doesn't work, and i get the stutter around corners and high RPM's! hmmmmm......

Yeah, the solution is to keep gas in it. The fuel keeps the pump cool.

Is is a big project to drop the tank and replace it?
Its time consuming and a royal pain if youre by yourself as its no fun trying to steady it with even only 1/4 tank of gas so get a buddy to help out. Have an extinguisher handy just in case and be sure to use a BRASS punch and a RUBBER mallet on the lockring. Less sparks the better. It may take a few tries to get the pump/sock filter in the baffle to.
