Default No Reverse

Been havin this problem for quite a while now but never got an answer. Might be the trans, not sure. Id like a few opinions first.

Trans is an AOD. All forward gears work just fine. Neutral works no problem. When i put it into reverse i can back up but only backing downhill. If i try to back uphill it wont move an inch. Now i thought it was the ebrake but there is only resistance backing uphill but no resistance backing downhill. For that im ruling out the ebrake.

Now on level ground when i can back up it feels like something is sticking. I hit the gas and the engine will rev but it doesnt move. Its not neutraling. Reverse IS there but its like the ebrake is on but i havent been using it. I could also a faint smell of gas when i revved it which i never noticed before.

The rear brakes (drums) were completely overhauled and done right. I had a hot passenger side drum which i fixed but lately its been getting hot again, not smoking but damn hot. So for that im thinking bad ebrake.

The reverse issue has been going on before the brake overhaul. Ive done everything to the trans but get a line pressure test and adjust the manual linkage. Havent found any codes. So im a bit confused. Trans lost reverse? Something with the Ebrake? Buddy said i may have a sticking valve body or something is clogged, or even a bad trans filter. But wouldnt all gears be affected by the dirt?

that happened in my old vert and about 3-4 months later all the gears started going. found out that most of the belts inside were worn really bad just happend to affect reverse before the others. might need to get her rebuilt or do a manual conversion

Luckily my street has a slight downhill grade and can back in fine. Whenever im out i make sure to pull thru any spots so i dont have to back up. So far so good.

Im hoping its just the valve body but which side do i check? Got 4 to pick from and my manual doesnt mention reverse on any of them hence even more confusion. Or is it listed as something else?
