Default Cam and headers?

Alright, well I bought a 5.0 that needed work (some of you may have seen it) and I'm probably going to keep it now that I have the means and ability to do so, but I don't really know a whole lot about them yet so I'm still learning. My question is: I'm looking for a new camshaft, and headers. Any of you guys have any pointers? As far as camshafts, I want something that gives mild-to-good performance, but doesn't require modification in other parts of the engine. Any ideas? The car is automatic at the moment, and in the future I will probably have it converted. I can't change that at the moment, though.

As far as headers, I just want something reliable that will bolt in there without having to do any modifications to the headers to get them to go in there and sit correctly.

* I also need to clarify it's a 1988 Mustang GT.

That's a possibility, also.

Get some gears and some heads those are the biggest gains you can get with a 5.0 outside of a power adder.

that's what I've been told, but I think I'm going to have to replace the cam shaft, so instead of going and getting another stock one, I'd like to do it once, and do it right. Know what I mean?

I hear ya, well the cam depends on if you plan to supercharge make it a stroker use nitrous or what u plan on doing with the car really. Then i could and many others could give you a little bit better advice on the choice.

+1 kinda... i wouldnt forget the cam... do a cam and heads at the same time... u really dont need headers until u get a bigger upgrade... it wont do much other than sound good... but if u want headers BBK makes some decent ones for a pretty good price... get ceramic ones tho... a cam to get is a TFS stage one or two.... there pretty good cams... a custom cam from jay allen at camshaft innovations would be better.... but if u upgrade cams ull need to upgrade springs pushrods and lifters as well and a timing chain kit... so u might a well do heads at the same time.. cuz u have to replace springs in them newayz... and u have it all torn down... so just do a h/c/i all at once

+1 on having to tear apart heads if you do a cam anyway.
