All 1979 Pace Cars have VINs that contain a distinctive 2 character series. the six digit consecutive unit number that is part of every mustang's VIN begins with 48. these are the only numbers that will appear as the sixth and seventh characters in an AUTHENTIC PACE CAR VIN.
by the way, only 3 were produced (each with a c4 tranny). there was 1 replica which was won by the actual 79' indy race winner.
