clutch cable
I have a stock T5 trans and i just installed a new clutch kit with cable and fork. before the install i saw the previous owner had rigged the cable with a sawed lug nut, to hold the cable about an inch past the fork.
When i put all the new parts in I was still an inch too long with clutch cable. I checked the clutch quadrant and everything is correct.
1990 ford mustang gt. Was there different styles of trans/bell housings for this model which could have been shorter/longer which would make the cable not fit right?
is the fork supposed to move back and fourth freely? "cable falls out"
Is there supposed to be a spring or something to keep it all in pace?
Anyone have any ideas?
Whith the cablein place and the fork loose I am not completely disengaged....... stumped!

RE: clutch cable
How would I be able to tell if quadrants from an LX model? I bought the mustang off a punk kid who rigged everything. All the badges and title say GT. and 5...... Is there a something on the quadrant itself that would be able to identify the make/model?
Thank you.
Thank you.

RE: clutch cable
the stock quadrant is ugly yellowish plastic. an aftermarket one will generally be a nice aluminum piece.
my cable broke today and i tried replacing it with a stocker and it was too short since i have an aftermarket quadrant.
so rule i learned tonight. stock cable for stock quadrant, adjustable(aftermarket) cable for aftermarket quadrant, makes sense lol
btw, the bbk one i had didnt even last me a year, then again i drive like a maniac. i hear the steeda ones are good and they are cheaper. look into the whole kit if you can afford it

RE: clutch cable
Look for a ford part number and post it here. I am sure someone will know if it is correct. I think you are looking for a Z in the part number but I dont recall for sure. A picture of it would be good, if you can get one.

RE: clutch cable
OK. I got
all new as close to stock as possible...
Flywheel, clutch kit, clutch cable, clutch fork andthe bearings.
I did not get a new quadrant, Should i go ahead and replace the stock one with a new adjustable one?
As for finding the model number on the quadrant, I will see if i can get it in the morning.
Thank you.

RE: clutch cable
i had the same problem, but i decided to fix it very "ghettoly" and i taped the little keyhole looking thing on the arm so that the cable cant slide down into it, i have no idea how your really supposed to fix it though...
Oh yeah, and my clutch cable fell out of the quadrant when it wasnt engaged too because i didnt have the spring from the quadrant in the correct hole... make sure the spring is keeping the quadrant tight with pressure

With this new kit it shifts great. I don't have to mash the pedal into the carpet to get the clutch to engage.
