RE: eating gas?
You really need to decode it. The Local autoparts store should be able to scan it and look it up. Subtantial Loss of MPG is probabily an O2 sensor or something having to do with monitoring the A/F ratio. While your at it, it would hurt to check the basics, tires, air& fuel filters, igintion(plugs, wires, cap and rotor) etc. You heard itall before. Good Luck.

Code 31 is for the EVP which is the electrical connection ontop of the EGR valve. Check for corrosion at the wires and clean out the EGR. Reset the computer and check again for codes. It could be a bad EVP. Also check the EVR sensor on the EGR itself for corrosion as it also shares code 31. Check the vac lines to it to, one goes right the EGR.
31 - PFE,EVP, or EVR circuit below minimum voltage. Its a KOEO,KOER, and Continuous code.
And as said, bad o2s have a direct impact on mileage. Do both at the same time.
