Default searching for mustang

Hi all. Im looking to spend $1-2k on a used mustang 5.0. this car will be the foundation for a 400+ whp drag racer. just wondering what year is a good one to look for. I prefer fuel injection. Also plan to add a turbo and NOS eventually.

If you are just going for a race car, go with a 1988 LX Notchback, as they don't have all the airbag stuff, and have the strongest chassis to prevent any tangle or twist. If you are looking for a good race car with looks, go with a GT Hatchback of any year (87-93)

id say go with a t-topped 86 or 87 GT. 86 was first year of fuel injection and that body style with the t- roof is bad ***.

t-top are just awful for a race car.......I like the 85-86 cars..... 86 had F/I....the 89 were the last year for no air bag and tilt steering and don't have those ugly *** pouches on the door

88 is a good year you are gonna want to do a complete rebuild if your gonna have 400 horses though you'll want forged inerds such as pistons and rods to handle the horses, and you'll need to convert to mass air. the only disavantage to getting an olser model than that is the older fox's used a weak 7.5 rear end where as the better rear was the 8.8 that they started using on the 88 or the 87 cant remember which one...ahh so it was the 86 year, opps i knew it was somewhere close to that but any ways the t-tops look pretty good but they wont be any good with that kind of horsepower, the 86 is ok if you like the front clip on that year model i like the gt body style of the 88 and on with the lx tail lights.

86 was the first year for the 8.8 inch rear buddy. If you can find and 88 (What's with 88 anyway?) from california, then it will be mass air flow already.
