I actually really want to change my gears, but I know I have to change my tranny too, hope my friend is still willing to sell me his or havne't already sold it...

Anyway, money is the number 1 issue with me, I'm a college student with a crappy job that barely pays for gas, so doing stuff to my car is actually quite hard and not very often, that's why this month was so cool for me, did a lot to my car considering how much i usually get done in a month, which is like, nothing, most of the time...

Yah, I have AOD, and it's starting to slip when switching gears sometime...

My friend has a T-5 off a 1993 Cobra that he's willing to sell since his car's crankshaft broke and he is actually interested in converting his to an AOD, but not the stock one. He wants one of those racing auto's roundman likes so much.

If I spend an entire day on it, I don't really mind. But yah, I do need to find time, at least 2 entire days to devote to the work.

dude..your nned a good stash of $$ to do the conversion.......first change the fliud and filter this may help..have you even checked the fluid level?.....since $$$ is a big concern try just doing a good tune up and install some low ohm wires....then maybe a msd 6al....the a set od 3.73 gears..this should hold you over til summer and you can make a lil more $$$$$

Money isn't really an issue with the conversion, my friend wants to go AOD, so everything manual related he's willing to sell to me for $300 and change, so that's chump change for a transmission. Anything else I'll get from the scrapyard but the clutch I will buy new. So that's going to be around $450 total for the conversion as long as I am able to do it all myself...

Well I just got done doing a t-5 conversion. It is not as easy as it looks. First pulling the old trans out only took like 30 minutes, but it weighs like 400lbs! Takes more than 1 person to do! We had 3 guys working on it, and could have used a couple more. We did it in a regular garage, and it was not pretty. There was oil all over the place, we needed new sensors, a new clutch (obviously), flywheel, hardware, measuring and cutting, dropping the exhaust and driveshaft. It is a good week-long job.

Of course it was on a 1991 Camaro RS, but same basic steps.
