Default thunderbird tranny question!

Sorry i can't find help anywhere else. I'm getting a 92 thunderbird 3.8 liter tonight for $400. the main problem is it won't shift into O/D. Any idea's or things to check to fix this, i'm going to do the fluid but other then that i don't really know what to check for. The guy said he switched the trannys and it still did the same exact thing. Is there some kind of electrical problem or sensor or something this could be. Thanks for any help.

Im assuming its an auto. The AOD is notorious for burning out the OD band. Im sure thats your problem. Theres no fix besides a fresh rebuild.

Yeah, fraid to tell ya hes right. A fresh rebuild will set you back atleast $600-$800 too. I wouldn't trust a used AOD cause no tellin when that OD band is going to go out. If you happen to know a tranny builder, a rebuild kit is only $299 for an AOD. I'd reccomend a kevlar OD band upgrade too.

I got a high performance rebuild kit with kolene steels, alto clutches, and redline bands off eBay for 200 bucks. It also includes a "power pack", which allows the direct drum to contain 7 clutches instead of 5. Autozone also has an OEM rebuild kit for 90 bucks....
