Default Faint Rattle - Driving Me Crazy! Please assist

There is a faint rattle coming from the passenger side of the engine in my '93 Mustang GT. The rattlecan be heard whenon 5th gear though i'm sure that it's happening regardless of gear i'm on. I can only describe the rattle sounding like a baby's rattle at higher RPM's or like BB's in a test tube when on the freeway doing 70 mph. When driving in a tunnel, the rattle is clearly heard. The rattle is very faint "behind" the noise coming from the engine. I am not chasing a ghost.

I have a suspicion that something is loose but what? Driving through a bump affects the rattling noise.

The rattle noise is not pinging nor is it because of an exhaust leak. I had these possiblities checked out.

Ideas please.

take a rubber mallet and get under the car and tap on the catalytic convertors and see if any are broken loose and rattling .....make sure car is cooled off unless you want to brave the heat

sounds similar to my problem. but i think what your hearing could be a throw-out bearing.

could be throw out bearing
could be wheel bearing
could be sagging motor mount
could be loose exhaust
could be bad exhaust hanger
could be leaking header
could be bad smog pump

just got to get it going 70mph and stick your head under there and listen better
maybe have budy hang on with the hood open and get her up nice and fast
see if he can hear whats bad.

could be any of those and more.

and i'm one to agree with the suggestion for narrowing down this culpret of baby rattles. lol

you should turn on your car. open the hood and look around and listen. rev the motor. do something to centralize the noise, you need to give us something to go off of.

check your O2 sensors, i had rattle and couldnt find it until one day i was adjusting my clutch and i bump the sensor and it made the noise. Ended up being broke on the inside of the exhaust, it was wierd never seen a sensor do that.

Had the same thing happen to me. I had a rattle that annoyed the hell out of me. Mine was just a loose sensor.

I've yet to figure out my rattle. A mechanic said its just the exhaust, but I know exhaust doesnt sound like that unless something is loose, broken, or has a hole in it.
