Problem SOLVED!!

Here's what I'm thinking: The EGR was plugged in, but the vacuum source was not. The computer read thatthe EGR was closedand compensated with more fuel. The car was running WAY too rich and would stumblebadly at part to wide open throttle. When I slapped on a breather to that vacuum hose(the one with the bolt), it ran a 1000 times better. I guess adding more air leveled off the mixture. Maybe all I needed to do was unhook the EGR?

I bought it like that. It has headers to pipes with no 02 sensors. Air pump pipe from exhaust was capped. All smog stuff removed an/or capped. The car was an 87LX, but already had the MAF wiring. EGR was capped but not unplugged. Edelbrock performer intake.
This is the dilemma. It either needs to be all computer controled or no computer control at all. Right now, it is mixed. However, it does run VERY good right now. I was just curious if the EGR caused all the problems to start.

Not having the O2s will not cause any problems (provided there are no problems with other components)....and it shouldn't be a cause for the self-tests not to be accessed, you would only see the O2 related codes (41/91 or 42/92). As a matter of fact, any other problem in the system (BP, ECT, ACT, etc) will cause problems, since they are the ones used by the computer to "estimate" the O2 readings.....part of the "limp-mode" strategy your car is running under right now.

Well, I hooked that intake vacuum hose back to the vapor canister and it runs great like before. The BAP is now unvacuumed. That means the plugged-in EGR was the cause for all this mess.

RE: Problem SOLVED!!
something is really wrong here, egr will cause problems only if it is open all the time, it is supposed to open when at cruise to drop engine combustion chamber temperatures so it can reduce the forming of nox emissions. If egr has direct vaccume and it is on you will feel it run like crap on idle and poor acceleration. Not having o2 sensors is a big problem because you are running a computer controlled vehicle, the computer needs the input from the 02 to adjust a/f accordingly, if you dont want all that then go carburated or fix the car right put the 02s on my 2c's
