Default another gauge question

I have a 95 convertable, the temp guage doesn't work.I replaced the sensor, I checked for continuity between the sensor and the gauge, I jumped the post on the back of the gauge with the continutity tester and it moves from right to left depending on which postI touch, soI believe the gauge is working, beforeI put more money into replacing my gauge cluster what else couldI check? I don't really want to put in a seperate gauge (don't have any good place to put it) plus I don't like having a dead spot on my cluster. any help would be greatly appreciated...
