Default AOD transmission

Is there any way to control second gear manually with a diff shifter or an upgrade to the transmission? shifter has 1,D and overdrive. if im in D is there and way to be in second without it shifting into 3? why didnt they just have 1,2,D, and overdrive on the shifter? I would rather have a manual for daily driving but is there anything i can do. I know i could by a shifter with 1,2,D. and overdrive but that just wont work will it. What about an electric button on the shifter that some cars have that turns overdrive on/off.
I want second! Thx

well at the track when you at WOT have it on 1 when you take off, when you want to go to second, shift the lever into D. after it shifts into second, throw the shifter back into 1 and that will cause it to hold 2nd. when your ready for 3 just shift it back into D again.

or you can get a manual valve body and a different shifter

if you are above about 25 mph, you can manually select 1, and the transmission will shift down into 2nd and hold it until you select either drive or overdrive.

this method will work but will play havoic on your OD/3 bands. do this to many times and youll lose OD then 3rd. so be careful. best bet would be a shift kit that sets teh shift points higher or say a valve body like lentech where it has 123 and OD is electronic

Thx for the info i looked at the lentech website and understand it now just have to decide. I may just go with the shift kit. But the the B&M 4 speed shifter and the valve body from lentech also look good.

the first 2 I looked at on the lentech site say fully automatic with manual control and a better alternative to a regular shift kit.
