Default help with exhaust leak

Ok, my car has an exhaust leak between the headers and the h-pipe. I checked the bolts and they are tight, and I'm 99% sure thats where the leak is. So with that being said, is there any tight of sealant that can be used on the flange to help stop the leak?

Here in a couple months I'm going to order a h-pipe and hears so it just needs to be temporary, but right now its embarrasing having to drive the car sounding like crap.

You can go to a pasrts house and get gasket material and cut your own makeshift gasket if there is in fact a sealing problem. You will find that most types of malleable sealing compounds do not work well on an exhaust pipe, harmonics mainly being the downfall.

I will get you an exact gasket material type if you would like, but a major parts house should have some.

If I'm not mistaken, between the headers and the H pipe they have self sealing non gasket type connections. Just try loosening the nuts up, adjusting the pipe, and then re tightening them down...

I had a ford explorer do what you are describing and it had the gasket-less connections there, and I just loosened them up, adjusted the pipe a bit and cranked them down and then it was silent.

If it's leaking on the head part of the headers you will have to replace the gaskets.

There is a good chance that if it is leaking around that flange that your problem is a rust issue, especially if it is a stock setup. Problem is that moisture and road debris lay in on top of the flange and start to rust the lip off. Unfortunately this is also the thinnest part of the pipe due to the flange being expanded. If this is the case then there are only a few options. Either replace it or pull it down and try to weld it up.

I had this problem when i installed my h pipe.. But i found the leak when i opened the hood and found that the air tube had snapped at the one way valve.. Just thought i would share this just in case you had just installed it.. Either way its still something you could check..

Ya there is no gasket between the header and h pipe flange, like stated above just move it around till you find the right place it stops leaking. And if you are going to get any kind of new gaskets for your headers go with copper.

Ok, so I found the problem. One of the studs on the passenger side header is stripped and won't tighten (the one blockedby the o2 sensor).

So yeah, I guess my uncle cross threaded thenut when he put the h-pipe on (I had him button up the motor/tranny swap.) I actually had him recheck the bolts and he keep saying"yeah, yeah, they're tight, its the joint screwed up",so I took his word for it...

For now I justput a newnut on and was able to get it fairly snug, which stopped alot of the leak.

Next weekend I'm going to pull the header and replace the stud, which I'm pretty sure will stop the leak completely, so atleast the car should sound decent.

Thank all you guys for your suggestions, I'm glad I found t
