Default Power Steering noise?

Recently I've noticed a noise when turning the wheels when I'm going very slow or at a stop, it's not your normal belt squeaking noise. Any ideas? Is it possible to drain and flush the power steering fluid?

i had that same problem with my power steering. turned out that i was low on fluid cause i had a power steering leak. sense i was too cheap to buy a new rack and pinion i just pured some power stearing stop leak in and it hasnt leaked/made that noise sense.

its a common problem with of the fox body mustangs, but normally it squeaks because there is a leak or it needs new fluid

You're right on the name.

I checked the fluid before I posted and it seems fine so it sounds like I should try draining the fluid and refilling it?

I would describe it as a squeak in the power steering system, not the normal noise a power steering system makes, this is the normal noise and a squeaking over it.

Ford is notorious for power stearing problems mostly leaks but another thing is bearing failyer
You might have a bearing that is on its way out or you could have just sucked some air into the system. another thing to check, is your belt too tight and that might be the reason your bearings are going.

I was doing donuts one night and after i did a few when i was stopped i heard a strange noise and i was low on fluid and a hose was leaking i replaced the hose and all is good now..but i would put fill up the resivor drive it around turning all the way untill it makes the noise and then when you get home check the fluid or look where the is near the pump check the hoses.

Hey guys,

I'm having the same problem with my car, it makes a squeaking noise and I was going to buy a new power steering pump since its got the stock one in there, do you guys think that something else might be a problem? like a leak?

The power steering has been checked and its full and it still makes the noise- I read somewhere that the power steering pumps on the foxes start to fail and squeak as they get old....

What should I check? or should I just buy a new power steering pump? they're only like 100 bucks....
