DSS uses mostly stock blocks and I've heard tons of mixed reviews. Dart actually manufactures their aftermarket blocks which are amazingly strong and expensive.

If you look at DSS' top line of shortblocks it actually says they use Dart sportsman and Dart Iron Eagle blocks.

If you're looking for the simple answer, Dart makes a far superior block, with a hefty price tag.

The dss block is nothing more then a machined stock block. If you took your block to the machine shop and had them bore cylinders, align hone mains, etc it would be the same as the dss block.

zach is right i run what dss calls a level 20 block but that is just because i got a deal on it. if i was buying a block i wouldnt waste my money on dss i would go boss or dart the dss has been a good block buy it was a seasoned one when i got it. no comparison DART

I have a DSS block in my 92 was never completly satisfied with it. I do not know if it was the installer or the builder but I had problems with it. I am planning on a Dart or new Boss block build up for my next motor. You could get what DSS offers from a local builder with your own block. DSS gets a lot of free advisertisement in the magazines, everytime MMFF get's a motor built they do to DSS. Depending on your budget I would base any buildup on new motor from Dart or Ford at least you know that your are starting off with a superior product than what came from the factory. Just my .02's.
