1994 Mustang
I have a 1994 mustang with the 3.8L motor in it. However, the motor has a burned valve and I really dont want to putz around with fixing it because it has almost 200K on it. The body is in great shape though and I was wondering how tough it would be to put in a 5.0L motor becuase that was the year in which they still had the 5.0 right?? Would the 5.0 out of a crown vic or F150 work??

RE: 1994 Mustang
not to familar with the swap details an I`m pretty sure someone gonna correct me but you`re gonna have to swap the trans. and put a 8.8 rear end in it. Some suspension upgrades will be needed aswell. As far as pulling an engine out of a truck or another car they will all work depending on the set up you`ll be running. If you`ll be running EFI you`ll have to have the right computer and wiring harness along with all the other parts. Or go carbed. I`m sure they`ll be a few people on here that`ll give you some good info on the swap. And yes, 94 & 95 both had 5.0`s

RE: 1994 Mustang
Just buy a 5.0 car is a BS answer. :P If you're willing to put in the work yourself, you can almost swap a 5.0 in for the same price you would spend to get a 3.8 rebuilt.
There's a couple of good threads on this in the Tech Articles section on this very board. You will obviously need a 5.0, preferably EFI, then the harness and the computer that matches it (computers are different between standard and auto). As best I can tell, if you have an auto, then it'll bolt right up because the 94 95's used the same AOD-E for 5.0's and V6's, and they don't have a changeable bellhousing. If you have a stick 3.8, then you'll need a new bellhousing for the 5.0, not an entirely new transmission. I suspect you'd need a new clutch and pressure plate as well. If you can pull the whole thing from the air filter to the mufflers, there's not much else you'll need. Your tachometer will be wrong, so either an aftermarket tach, or a new gauge cluster, however, if you have an automatic, then it's not as important since the computer will shift for you anyway. If you can't get the exhaust off the donor car, then you'll probably need a new exhaust, but if you already have GT takeoffs like many v6 driver's do, then you've already got it. If you can't get the intake, then at least get the MAF, and pick up a cheap intake tube off e-bay to get you started.
I bought a longblock 306 for $250 two weeks ago, and with a new gasket set, it'd be ready to drop in now. Since our v6 is an award-winning showcar, we're taking the time to clean, polish, and paint all the bits, and we're putting in a new cam and heads and intake, and headers before it goes in. If you're going to swap in a v8 and be happy, it's not hard. If you're going to build a v8 for hp and swap it in, then that's another story.
