does anyone know how low the coolant level should get to make the sensor light up on the dash
If you're that worried about it, buy a new sensor. Otherwise, jump the connector together, the light will be a non issue and all you have to do is check the overflow from time to time.

well thats the problem im not sure if the sensor is bad, when at normal operating temp the coolant in the overflow is about 1/2 inch below the hot line, thats why im curious about how low should it get before the light comes on, and i have looked everywhere and no parts store im my area carries it. saw one on ebay for 119.99 thats alot if its working properly.

I told you before, jump the connector and the light should go out. Ride around like that for a few days, if the light doesn't come on, you need the sensor. If it comes on or flickers, you have a short somewhere.
