I run 13* on 91 Octane.. It runs perfect, but I think I need a new distributor, After 118,XXX miles, I bet the shaft is a little worn.. What do you think?

i run 14* with 91. i can run 14* on 89 octane but on hot days it pings so i just run 91 all the time
wonder whyjust on hot day?
colder air is denser and less prone to pre-ignition aka pinging

The slop that I was getting was caused by the rotor. It moved a little bit in the holder. I put a new cap and rotor on the car. The timing chain is tight. I just replaced the gasket the other day. Does anyone think that I should pull the distributor and move it a tooth or two, and then try to time it? 10* of adjustment is quite a bit of turn for leaving it on the same tooth.

I decided that I would check the timing on my Mustang, since I just picked it up a little bit ago. When I tried to time it, the light showed about 3* btdc, but moved around a little bit. I hooked up a compression gauge and found TDC on #1. The rotor points between 1 and 7 ( i cant remember exactly- the next one past 1 going counterclockwise- this is a H.O. motor). So should I pull the distributor and move it a couple of teeth so that it lines up right? I think the book said 10* ATDC is stock. How far can/should i go? Thanks for the help!
10* ATDC is stock?
