The reason for AFR's being so expensive is because YOU tell them how you want them, and they make them for you, they are not an on-the-shelf item. I have found them for under 1300, but after tax would be right around there.

Not really overkill, they would just not perform to their full potential.

Right, they would be allowing more air into your engine, thus meaning more than a stock 302 could take, meaning they would definately perform better than stock, not as efficient as the 165's but more efficiently if you added a power adder or stroker/bore...

so say i get 165;s and my MPG dropes 3mpg? how much would it drop do you think iif you keep your foor out of it? how much more would 185s drop it vs 165s? thanks

I am not sure how much it would drop as it is making your engine run more efficient. I dont know if you would really see a drop in normal driving, maybe if you launch from every light.. NOT RECOMMENDED! lol..... Maybe 2 MPG for both sets.
