Default 351 W

So I thought I knew a lot, but it only takes one person to doubt you to make you think twice. Does the 351 use the same intake manifold, heads as the 302? Ive heard both ways and I want to know because I have to opp to pick up a cheap 351 donor. Thanks

They use different intakes, the 351 has a taller deck heigh, 9.5" as opposed to the 302's 8.2", so it's wider up top. The heads are interchangable, though 351's are set up for 1/2" head bolts and 302's are setup for 7/16" head bolts. They had different heads from the factory, but as long as the head bolt issue is adressed, they can be used on either engine

The original design on the 351W has a 9.5 deck height. They make different decks on them now also.

all you would have to do to swap over is to, like said earlier, drill out the holes for the bolts to 1/2 inch. Also, you can use the UPPER intake but you will have to buy a new lower intake, which they do sell for 351 W motors. (check summit/jegs) if you do that, your set

no way, why would u drill out your block and makeit weakerwhen u can get a bolt kit which steps down from 1/2 in to 7/16 threads. And 351s in the 80's have the samevalves and ports as the 302.

Drilling the heads is easy. I have a set of GT40Ps on my Son's 351, and actually drilled them out using a 1/2" drill, holding the head in a vice. Camshafts are also interchangeable. Back in the old days, the 302 and 351W had different firing orders, and we used to run302 cams in our 351W motors, because they were much cheaper than the 351W cams.
