no spark.

no spark.
alright, heres whats going on. after i installed my new manifold i had to reset the timing because i removed the distributor to install the manifold. i was given instructions by a professional mustang shop to do the following.
remove spark plug cylinder 1.
have a friend put finger over the hole
bump the engine over little by little, just enough that it builds compression and he has to inform you when compression has taken place
stop bumping then look on the balancer for the degree marks, it should be around 6-12 degrees.
install the distributor and point the rotor to the "1" mark on the dist cap.
tighten it down and re install the spark plug, then use the timing gun to check timing.
heres what i didnt do, before all that i just stuck the distributor in there and tried having my friend rotate it slowly as i turn the engine over and hope it will start when i hit 14 degrees. this caused a lot of backfiring so i stopped that and did the above procedure.
now the car will not produce spark, i hit 0 degrees dead on the money which is TDC on compression stroke. the coil is not producing spark, i took a voltmeter and touched the coils + - terminals and it did not read any voltage. this means that the coil isnt being fed power, what could be causing this. it was sparking not long ago but why is it not sparking now? i didnt change anything, so what the hell!!!!

RE: no spark.
That really sucks man the only thing i can think of is that you unpluged the dis. have you checked for that?? Another way though that you can reach TDC is to stick a screw driver into the spark plug hole thenbring the piston to the top... The only thing would be is that you may miss the compression stroke but then that means you just bring the dis. 180 degrees around... Not sure how you are not geting spark though....Again check your grounds and make sure they are good... Then go from there.... The only thing for electricity is positives and grounds dont make it any harder then it really is... Just take a step back and look at everything....

RE: no spark.
found the problem, it was just the grey distributor spout. i plugged that in and it idled ok but kinda rough since the timing was set at 0 degrees. i borrowed my friends timing light and set it to 12-13ish, she runs solid now.
