Where is he getting the transmissions? If you are getting used you need to take them apart and check bearing preloads on the cluster and output shafts. That and a good shifter are the life of these gear boxes. If he is buying new ones I would say it's thedriver.

I've come to the conclusion it's the shock load that take out the dog teeth. A quick shift is more shock than a slow power shift and horsepower or etis not the killer of a T5. Traction and weight will break a trans before horsepower.

These things will survive behind500hp turbo engines but notmild stocker ifbanged intogear. They are nice daily driver transmissions also. My last Mustang which never saw a tire went 320,000 before I sold it and it was still working perfectly.

My shift forks were fine. Djcon. When you said linkage. I have thoughts of theold 60's transmissions with rods and lever outside the trans. Thank goodness they survived, they were new ones from Tremec.

There is no doubt I was engaged into 2nd when it broke. The gear was slid over and engaged to the dog teeth when I took it apart. Too bad the dog teeth was not attached to the speed gear anymore.

What do you all think about these Super Alloy gears from Astro performance?

when i could not get my trans to shift good b/c of the forks, everyone told me that if i was looking to run the car or drive hard just to look into the TKO-500. But trans are expensive so, i think that the alloy gears would make the t-5 stronger but i think from all of the horror stories of t-5 you will still hit problems later. look at this web site it may help you. btw nice notch http://www.musclemustangfastfords.co...rce/index.htmlgood luck

If you have future plans for building the engine i would go ahead and get the tko, i have the TKO-600 behind my 357, and that is one thing i have not had to worry about.
