T-5

RE: T-5
Basically yes. A T5 from a '90 5.0 V8-engined Mustang will happlily fit behind and '83 5.0 engine.
Be aware that though T5's are nice, one is likely not the best choice for your truck. They are designed for fairly light weight vehicles, your truck is NOT lightweight. Still, you can use one, make sure it did not come from a four cylinder Mustang. They had T5's too, with different input shafts, bellhousings, and generally were rated for less torque. Still folks have adapted them anyway, with varying success.
If you measure things, you may discover the T5's shifter is going to come up through the floor too close to the dash. Somethign you can about it is to swap the rear housing and shift rod from a "Chevy S10" T5 onto your Mustang transmission. T5's were used in a few different vehicles, the S10 versions used the furthest to the rear shifter position.
I might suggest looking for an "M5OD" from around a 1987-94 F150. I've had luck with them though others have not. If you ask me they are easier and cheaper to repair then T5's. But they are NOT "sporty" transmissions, when you shift one you know you're not diving a sports car.But are true 5 speeds, no "granny low" gears or anything, and thay arebuilt for truck use. Plus they have hydraulic clutch setups that may well be easier to retrofit than a T'5's cable clutch. Maybe. Odds are excellent the M5OD shifter will come through the floor right where you want it and you can use the stock shifter rather than having to fabricate something to work with a T5 (or stretch your right arm another 12 inches or so).
