the hatch is more streamlined than the notch, but the fox doesn't have the most aerodynamic shape. the sn-95's are def better in that dept.

for foxbodies, an 87+ LX hatch

i say 87 because the headlights are angled. not much, but the headlights on earlier models sit back too far. yes covers will solve this, but... thats not "stock".

also the frontend on the LX has an opening in the grille and the front spoiler is wide open (87+ models)

the sn-95 is obviously more "round" and was designed to handle well at high speeds.

interestingly though, 79-04 mustangs share the same suspension system. some cobra's have IRS which of course doesn't count.

The thread asks about best for high speed races. While I agree that a LX hatchback would be the best for out of the choices given for aerodynamics but I think the GT would be the most stable at speed.

The front air damn and skirt should help keeping air from getting under the car.

Headlight covers if it's a 4 eye and lowered on any model will help.

Buy one of these....

On a serious note, aerodynamics is not only difficult to understand to some degree, but elusive. Aerodynamics and being "stable at speed" has as much to do with the belly of the vehicle as it does the top. You could make an educated guess and say that the New Edges have a slight advantage because of the smooth lines and curves, however they make a bigger footprint, so there is more surface area.

Bottom line, if you are trying to set a land speed record, or enter your Mustang into a Nascar event, you will have to do some.....Minor modifications. If you are trying to get from point a to point b faster, make more power than the other person and hang on with both hands....Oh and buy good brake pads.
