So me and my dad are putting an 83 302 into an 87 that had a 2.3, we tried dropping in the motor today and the mounts dont seem to be right. The studs go into the slots but the plates hang off the cradle too much and it seems like the engine should sit back more. Do we need to drill holes, or do we have the wrong mounts? I will try to post pictures later. Thanks.

are the motor mounts on backwards? left one on the right side and the right side on the left ...

might be a silly question but are you using 2.3 mounts on the 302?

hmmm theres a chance the mounts could be reversed. The mounts im using came on the engine and the 2.3 mounts were left on the engine, they dont look the same as the mounts on the 302 so i'm assuming i have the right ones.

the other engine came out of a mustang right?

if you plan to mod this motor i would skip the stock mount route and just buy a pair of energy suspension mounts, comes with a tranny mount also.
