As for repalcing the sleave.....if you were replacing the gears or bearing it is a must, but like capri said, the old bearings are probably worn anyway so the preload is gone. The preload on the bearings should be around 10 ft/lbs of tunring torque, meaning as you spinthe pinionwith the wrench, you should have about 10ft/lbs. Use locktight on the pinion bolt.

RE: Replacing the front differential seal HELP
I told you all you had to do was replace the seal and tighten the nut and you'd be good to go. But you took the hard road.If you would've tried what I suggested there was a 90% chance it would've worked just fine... and if you goofed up and tightened the nut too much... THEN you should've gone and done what everyone else told you to do. The moral of the story is always try the easiest fix first instead of jumping the gun and ripping the whole rear apart. AllI can say now is good luck. I'm not rubbing your nose in it, but I've been doing this stuff for 25+ years and gave you my best advice... I just feel bad you didn't take it... and hope you can get it fixed now.

Rubbing noise? I just went back and looked through the whole thread and you never mention anything about a rubbing noise. All you said is that the seal was leaking. And the way I took it is that you decided to remove the diff and put in a new crush collar. Did you or did you not take the diff out?
