Default Alternator Gague Question

I put in a new battery and alternator about 1 month ago and the volts gaguge is getting real screwy. The car runs fine but the gauge drops off at lights and everything. Are these gagues prone to having problems? It is a 90 gt automatic and it was just a stock replacement alternator from pep boys.

Also what is the stock spark plug gap?
