igntion and battery problem
alright well i dont kno too much but i know my primary ignition system has to be messed up, because i fully charged the battery and tried starting it with a key, and it would not even crank. Then if i bypass the starter cellunoid with a screwdriver or wat have u, it starts right up. so i dont know what is going on there. Second, when it does start, the voltmeter shows a reading of about 18 volts, and when i rev it up the battery light comes on and its just messed up. I know it could be a number of things, but any feedback would help.
Thanks guys

RE: igntion and battery problem
Sounds like you have more than one problem.1. If you have a clicking when you try to start might be a bad solenoid. Then when it starts and the volt meter reads 18 volts sounds like a bad regulator.Try to check with a volt meter and make sure the guage is not messed up.If you are charging 18 volts it might have shorted the soleniod.

RE: igntion and battery problem
Whenever you have a problem where you turn the key and nothing happens.... The very first place you should be looking is the ground wire lead between the battery and the block. This strap tends to rust out and disconnect overtime. Weird stuff happens when you ground starts to go. Definately pay close attention to the end connected to the block. I wasted two days one time troubleshooting a similar problem. When I turned the key, nothing happened. The quick test is the throw a single jumper cable between the ground on the battery and the block. Try to start the car again after you do this.
[:@]I wound up replacing everything one time including starter, alternator and battery. I even ripped out my cheapo alarm system, because I thought it was related to my problem. Finally, I took the damn starter out of the car, put it on the ground and manually jumped it. As soon as I did this, and the starter worked, I realized that there was someone that I completely overlooked. I re-installed the starter, put a jumper cable on the battery ground and engine block and whamo. Started right up. Think I spent around $350.00, when I really needed was a $9.00 ground strap.
I will never make this mistake again..... NEVER, NEVER, NEVER... you live and you learn. The upside is I have a whole new electrical system practically.
