Default New slow 95 5.0?????

I bought a 95 GT with 91k miles on it and I wondering why it is so slow? The seller told me that the 5spd transmission was just replace because it was grinding in second gear. He replaced it with a good one from a low miler. The car runs great, but when I get on the pedal it is just not there. Where the 95's slow and hard to bury that tack in 3rd gear? What could be wrong and what should I be looking for?

with high gears and you probably got 2.73's 3rd gear isn't going to wind out all that fast..you car stock came with 215 hp I believe.and to the rear wheels less than that....now if your car bogs then that may be an issue or if the timing is retarded to much it'll be a dog..... I'd run a koeo/koer test and make sure there are no codes first

It doesn't bog at all, in fact it runs very well and cruises down the highway at 68 MPH (110kph) at a mere 1600 rpm. The gas mileage looks like it is going to be incredible at this rate. What is the koeo/koer test and how might I do it?

I am pretty excited that the C&L 73mm MAF that I bought for my 88 might have found a new hood to go under

i'd check the spark plugs, wires and coil packs. and maf sensor. unplug the maf sensor and see if it runs better.

They are not going to be that fast, but they should not feel like a dog either. A lot of this has already been said but check the MAF senor filments, clean out the throttle body, check timing, fuel filter, run some fuel system cleaner, look at the cap & rotor, plug & wires, etc. The gears have a lot to do with the feel. Sounds like you have some 2.73's, but to find out, either check the axel code on the door jamb, or look at the axel tag. The axel tag wouldread 2L73 for a T-lok 2.73, 3L08 for a T-Lok 3.08, etc. Also remember, the stock power band ends between 4700 and 5000 RPM's. Dont take it to the 5800 red line.

that is correct. He definatly has 2.73 gears. My 95 i thought was slow when i bought it.. it was alright quick in first and second.. but when you hit third.. unless you screamed out second.. it was a dog. it was the 2.73s. If you change out to a 3.55 which is what i did it will pick up ALOT. some guys will say go on and do 3.73.. but i like my 3.55. i wouldnt have any other gear. just $.02 from another guy who has the same car

I would agree with them gears make a big difference, also another thing might be the plugs and wires. when i got my 94 gt it ran good and when i put new plugs and wires it was like night and day with the power. so some good 3.55 or 3.73s like i am getting with new plugs and wires and it should be better.

Great stuff everyone! I just broke my stang in with a fresh speeding ticket. lol.... I can't believe that the slowest of all my cars is what I get nailed in... Too friggen funny.

What kind of $ does it cost for new gears and to get them changed? What will that do the gas mileage? Big difference in mileage between the 3:55's and 3:73's?
