Default Ignition switch

The wire coming outthe ignition switch that is white with apink stripe is spliced with a jumper wire running to the starter relay.Well we unhooked the the jumper wire and it wont start unless its hooked up,were they bypassing something? What does this mean and what do I need to do to start it without the jumper wire. The ignition switch is new.

It's not a bad thing. You should have a rod that goes from the switch to a box on the steering shaft. That has most likely went bad and they just bypassed it.

not possible. The car would not start w/o that rod. It's what triggers the electrical part of the ignition switch mechanically from the key switch. Since the key switch is completely mechanical as well, it can't be jumped in the fashion you have stated.
