most junk yards will sell you a 302 for a few hundred bucks with some sort of warranty to ensure its a running motor.

look for one locally in a car thats smashed - that way you know it was running when it got sent to the yard. you can also pull a valve cover or even the oil cap and see how it looks inside.

yea all the local have a guarenteed to work but all the 302s i looked at had bad valves or rusted to hell cylinders. id prefer new its just if i can get something cheaper thats decent i want to know before i spend an arm and a leg on something thats the same

You can't be picky when you are looking for a cheap motor. There are reasons why they are cheap.

Find a good junkyard, i've got a hook up at advance auto parts, and the guy there gets stuff from a local yard for dirt phuking cheap, and reliable too.

im in san diego and wrecked my gt last week...113k on the motor all stock- im sure it'll be in a yard around here soon enough. all it needs is headers. i dont exactly know how you would go about searching for this...but its out there
