kool thanks!!!
would you also happen to know how much power a stock differential can handle after being rebuilt with trac-lok kit? i am looking to buy 28 spline mosers and 4 lug rims and keeping the 8.8 diff, i want it to handle 10s because that is my goal.

good luck pal. 28 splines cant handle nothing. ur best bet is some 31 splines with the proper differential. ive asked about this too and some people say its all luck. some cars have made it to the 10's with 28splines and some have snapped in the mid 13's. but more have broke in the 12's then in 10' or 11's because by the time u reach that point, ud be smart enough to get 31 splines or 33 splines.

i said in my previous post i wanted to use 28 spline MOSER axles. i wanted to know if the differential itself will hold up to 10s because i know the mosers will. there is only one thing to break after you get new axles and gears and thats the diff, i just want to know what it can handle.

RE: HP and 4 lug rims.
The weakness in the ford 8.8 is the Axle tube itself. Youll prolly end up snaping that pour tube before anything else. I would go through a company like Strang Engineering www.strangeengineering.net and pick up a complete axle assembly.

i agree the diff is going to be able to handle what ever you throw at it, the housings, the axels that is what to worry about, as for the lugs 86hogt is correct cuz i know the same guy!!!!!!!!

awesome thanks for the info, i just need to replace my axles because of pitting and i dont want to have to buy a new diff for the 31 spline.
when i start heavy modding the car i want to be sure the diff will handle it.
so heres what i want the setup to look like.
4 lug strange or moser axles
28 spline
stock diff rebuilt trac-lok
3.73s are already in there now
ARP wheel studs
i just want it to handle 600 HP.

RE: HP and 4 lug rims.
the stock Ford 8.8 rear will not, repeat NOT, handle 600 HP!!!!
28 spline axles will not handle that HP either, I don't car who makes them. you need larger diameter axles with more splines for that level of torque and HP, I would got with at least 33 or 35 spline axles.
and I would replace the 8.8 rear with a 9" Ford rear end as it is much stronger than the 8.8 and with the right combination of internal parts, it can handle just about any HP you can throw at it.
I've got a complete Strange Engineering 9" Ford rear with a steel spool and 35 spline axles with a 4.56 gear in my '88 and I don't have to worry about breaking it anytime soon.
