You can find em used all over the place, go with the gt40 and just port it out later on if you want, try and find a tubular plenum if you want a badass looking one. That intake will be plenty for what your trying to do.

I'd say just go with a polished Cobra or a cobra for now (they are considered GT40), just not the tublar upper, $475 form LRS, or $365 non polished. $800 is a lot for ANY intake. TheCobra flows pretty consistent with it, at least these are good street intakes. With all the stuff goin on with my car, I am appreciating factory stuff all the more, and it makes sense. Ford has to stand behind it, and there is so much researchgoing into it. yeah aftermarket does their stuff too, but to what degree. Some is better, some is worse. if you don't like the cobra it should be an easy sell...

that 340 hpFord motor has been getting pretty bloated pricewise, it used to go for $3,500 now it's like $4,700 and you need an intake with that anyways...

yea he's not much of a real friend if he's trying to sucker you for 800. go look on ebay right now and there's like 2 of em, both of which are less than that.

i just bought a real tubular for $350, needs paint but i'm going to polish it.

i am buying another real one for $500 next week if the guy still has it...super clean plus 65 tb and inj w/ it

i'll keep both of them, one for my next car

i say go real gt40...best intake ever...period

porting the lower will support you well over 500 hp i don't care what anyone says....back int he day when 5.0's were breaking into the 10's thats what they used. w/ crappier heads than we have now

I bought my Tubular GT-40 last year for $250and the lower was already ported, the only problem I had was trying to find a cover (which I never did) so I made my own.

- bob you said that you plan on polishing yours if you do plan on spending somewhere around 24-30 hrs doing it . I spend 26 hrs on mine.

Wow that intakeis SICK .

Like the other guys have said, search around a bit and you can find GT-40 intakes for relatively cheap. If you wantlooks I'd go with the tubular one like other have posted. If you don't mind looks though the Cobraand 5.0 Explorer intakes are usually cheaper and areboth basically just cast versions of the tubular one.The difference in HP between them is negligible (only a couple hp at most).

I don't have much experience with the Ford crate motors, but I'm sure a couple people will chime in and say that you could put together a better motor for the same $ or less by buying parts seperately.
