Default 5.0L Build-up

I recently bought an '89 LX with a 4 banger. Now being a 20 year old with a Mustang is cool and all...but its a 4 banger. I have a 302 block sitting in my garage all stripped down and ready for rebuilding. I'm looking to get a stock 5.0L H.O and take what I need off there. I'm working on a budget and want to crank outa little above300 horse. What would be the cheapest way to get there?

dont take this to heart but:
you shouldnt even own a performance vehicle if your planning on going the cheapest route!!! you buy cheap its gonna run cheap and cost you more in the long run!! any guy on here will tell you that, you might as well just save and buy peice by peice. drive the 4 banger around because gas is outrageous where i am dont know about you, and buy a part here and there, and eventually yoll have a sick peice to kick together before you know it youll think wow this was worth it!! you can fin mustang parts anywhere, like a honda civic, sure youll get a deal here or there, but man if you want somthing nice dont just buy just bcause. you have a long ways anyways switchin the 4 to a 8. fuel system, eventually brakes and suspencin will have to e upgraded, just getting a 302 to put it in and drive the same day, easier said than done!

you can take this into consideration or just do it like retards do it and buy junk **** build somthing and expect somthing nice! maybe raise you hp rating and set a new goal. 300 hp comes stock in 70% of todays factory cars! besides the point good luck with your build up.

Sell it and get a 5.0 to start with. the money you would spend on just upgrading the components to make it safe will cost you more than a decent used 5.0.

RaceRelated - I completely understand what you are saying. The intention was never to take the car off the road cause it has a 4 banger. The intention is to have the 5.0L on an engine stand until its built up and ready to drop in. I was just more so wondering if I should change internals, obviously a cam, headers, that kind of thing. It was never ment to be a weekend drop in and go. I'm just looking for some input.

And as far as selling the car and buying a 5.0, thats probably not going to happen. The car only has 133km on it and no rust to speak of. It's in beautiful condition...just a little underpowered.

although alot of work.....4 cyl conversions are where it's at as far as finding a body that is in good shape....my 92 in my sig was a 4cyl conversion and it was one of the cleanest inside and out I'd ever seen I bought it back in 98 and used it as a daily driver until 2003 in it's 4 cyl form..and to this date it is still as clean as ever inside and out
