Rebuild gearbox or Get a new one?

RE: Rebuild gearbox or Get a new one?
Depends. Currently going through this, I would have just went with a rebuilt tranny from D&D for $999, although they currently don't have any in stock for that price.A local mustang shop had rebuilt t-5's at $750 (probably just take yours as a core), it would be more time efficient if they justswapped your out and rebuilt it later (check with yours). Rebuild don't include any hard parts like synchros, gears, sliders etc. gears run like $90 each, slider about the same. The full synchro kit I think runs like $3XX.XX. A standard rebuild kit includes blocker rings, which I am told most people usually confuse for synchros, and is commonly what is needed vs. The actual synchros themselves.
I was un lucky when mine started coming together. It needed second, and a slider, which was equal to getting a rebuilt one from D&D with the labor and rebuild kit. It was past the point of return and at that time it was equal to just getting a rebuilt one from D&D performance. Then when it got put up in the car, they noticed that the case cracked at the filler...Throw another couple hundred on there[:@]... You just don't know until you are in it...

Ha! I just went over that "how to rebuild a t5"...um...no thanks. I'm way too lazy to do that. I think I'll just buya new one or skip, 3rd. If I should be fortunate enough to come across a good used one, I'll get it, but there's no way I'm rebuilding one of those.
