MAF Conversion on 86 - Which VSS wires to splice?
Hi Everyone!
I’ll do my best to describe where my trouble is. Any help, or advice, anyone can offeris appreciated.
I did a MAF swap on my 86 auto mustang. Everything went really well, but I have some idle and stall issues. I think it is from the VSS splice connection. My 86 has cruise control as a stock feature, so I think it has the VSS hooked up to the tranny.
The only 8 pin connector on my 86 is a green one, not black with the corresponding wires as describedin the typical instructions,
"VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR SIGNALS
These signals are required for cruise control and as stated earlier, some have reported stalling problems on cars not equipped with cruise so avoid the head-ache and just do it. These will also generate an error code in the EEC if not installed. These signals come from a sensor that plugs into the transmission. The easiest place to tap into them is behind the driver's side kick panel. There is an 8 pin connector cable which runs back to the driver's seat, across the floor under the seat then back towards the front of the car and then goes through the transmission hump to the sensor. You will need to splice into the orange/yellow wire. The other end of this signal needs an EEC pin attached and this gets inserted into the EEC connector into position 6. You need to splice into the dark green/white wire for the other connection. The other end of this signal needs an EEC pin attached and this gets inserted into the EEC connector into position 3. Refer to figure 2."
The wires on my green 8 pin connector are all different colors. The closest match I could find to the above instructions where a orange/blue wire and a green/orange wire. Which wires should I splice on this 8 pin connector?
Here are a couple pictures I took of the green 8 pin connector from my 86 mustang:

If your car has cruise, you shouldn't have to worry as far as I know. Also, from my experience, the stalling issues you get from not having a VSS hooked up is normally in a manual tranny car since the computer can't judge the load on the engine when you push in the clutch. Auto cars don't go into neutral like a manual car. I think you have other problems.
I'll try and disconnect the splices I did. I have a feeling those are screwing with something as I wasn't sure if the wires I tapped into were the right ones. We'll see what happens when pins 3 & 6 are unhooked.
Anyone else have any ideas?
Thanks for theinfo 5.0stanger!

Yeah, if your car has cruise, it already has a VSS wired in, so I would undo anything you did in that area...or just snip the wires by the kick panel so you can re do it later if I am wrong.
