slicks also have a thiner sidewall so they can wrinkle at the hit which helps plant the tread area for more traction off the line.
slicks are not DOT rated and do not belong on the street period!

Not only for safety reasons, but you will get less traction in most cases with a straight slick on the street as compared to a drag radial.
