Default spring compressor

has anyone used a clamshell type strut spring compressor when doing their springs? like this one below:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MacPh...QQcmdZViewItem

i'm going to be replacing my springs soon with ford b springs. the last time i had my springs out to change the arms i really did not have a fun time. i had one of those internal spring compressors and it did not work very well. this tool looks like it might make the job a breeze.

I tried one of them last week on my B series springs and it did not work well at all,its too bulky and gets in they way and it didnt compress the spring enough.

That spring compressor is for use withtrue Mcpherson strut/coil overs springs.
It will not work with your car with modified Mcpherson strut front end.
You don't need a spring compressor.
To replace the front springs, jack up the car and put jack stands under the front frame rail of the uni body. Put your floor jack under the lower control armwith a little pressure on it. Remove the 2 bolts from the lower control arm. Lower the jack slowly and the spring will drop out.
Holdthe new spring up into the spring bucketand start jacking up the lower control arm. Align the spring up in the lower control arm. Get the lower control arm back in place and insert the bolts and tighten them up and do the other side.
If these are lowering springs you should add a set of offset rack bushings.
You will need a front endalignment.

Of course if you have a true Mcpherson strut front end forget the above and get a spring compressor or take your struts to a shop that has one and have them change your springs........454

I did not use compressors to remove the springs but I sure needed them to get 'em back in.
