AOD shift problem

RE: AOD shift problem
Your TV (throttle valve) cable is out of adjustment, its too loose. You need to pop it off the throttle body or carb, remove the little metal bracket and slide it up a couple of notches.
If you dont adjust it properly youll eventually burn up the trans.

P Zero -how sure are you about the tv cable adjustment procedure? I only ask because mine does the same thing ("mine" being a '89 Ranger with a transplanted 5.0 + AOD from a '92 Lincoln MK VII with custom made throttle and TV cable mounting). I'm looking for a good explanation of the correlation between "loose" cable and what it would cause vs. "tight" cable adjustment and what it would cause. I'm planning on checking the pressure of the tranny and making adjustments based on that but would like more info. Also, I've got 3.73 gears and was wondering if I need to change the governor to get the tranny to shift later (higher driveshaft speed).

I used this video when i use to have a AOD.
the adjustment he show's is what worked best for me, then id tighten it about 1/4 an inch for the track for it to shift harder.

good luck.

Even with the shifter in Drive, it would kick up into overdrive sometimes around 4200-4300rpm.
at the track this would kill my time's because i have 4.10 gears, id go from 4200rpm to like 2800! lame as hell.
SO glad i got rid of the AOD, lost about 40lb's off the car, and the car pull's ALOT harder now!!
