Dirty MAF? Looks like you replaced most of the fuel system except the filter.
Try dropping the fuel pressure back to 38 with no vacuum. Does this help?

Have cleaned MAF 3 times, 2 new fuel filters, tried all different fuel pressure settings and no better!! I have attempted all of the easy fix things many times with no results.

Yeah i know what closed loop means i just wasn't sure if it had to do with coolant temp. Is there a way other than holding the light in the engine bay at 5,000 rpmto check total timing? Should i try replacing the ecm?
I wouldn't replace the ecm until you can narrow down the misfire to secondary or primary and I can't remember cause it's been such a while since I've used a obd 1 scanner on a ford..but I'd look to see if you can get a data stream..on the modis we can get somewhat of one.. but look for a pid that has the timing shown
What do you mean narrow the miss to secondary or primary? We hooked the snap-on MODIS up to it, and couldn't find any data stream. But then again that thing is really complicated!

The only EEC-IV V8 Mustang generation with datastream capabilities is the SN95. Since the symptom is time/temperature related, you may want to check the PIP/SPOUT signals combo....... if you don't have access to a scope, you could take the SPOUT out of the picture by locking the distributor to ~36° advance, leave the SPOUT connector off......and see if the problem repeats after an extended drive cycle test.

Well i set base timing to 36*, i disconnected spout, and after a long drive while it was warm it revved up to 6,000 in first and second with no miss at all both in neutral and with a load. So is it the ECM thats my problem??

What replacement TFI module brand did you use?..... did you cover the back of the ICM with the dielectric compound?.......

It was theTFI from o'reilly auto parts? Yes i used the dielectric grease. What else could this be besides the ECM? Even tried a new distributor today and that did nothing. The car runs good and has no other problems besides cutting out at high rpm after about 20 mins. When it runs good it is a big difference from when it is sluggish and hot, it feels like two different cars!
