Default starting problems...

ok so i put my battery in the trunk and it might be a bad ground, havnt investigated that part. but when i had it grounded to where the trunk bolts on it started up good for a few days... then it started really really slow, and sometimes not at all. then i switched it to the other side and grounded there. same thing, good for a couple days and then crap. yesterday i was driving it and i had to slow down for a turn and as i started the turn it died, and i had to get jumpers... i have 2 gauge wiring, and stock altenator, with a regular battery, im soon to get a battery with like 1,200 or 1,500 cold cranking amps... would that help? also could it be my stock altenator? what do those run stock? and would this be a good upgrade????

89,

Well sounds like a bad ground, I'm not thrilled with the mustangs grounding capibilities in the rear of the car either, but I know that if your running underdrive pulleys, your are definately not getting the charge you need. My alternator was rebuilt by a guy who specializes in Mustang alternators and underdrive pulleys. Optima red tops by far are the best battery out in my opinion. Find a good ground, clean it up real nice, when your driving and all your lights start to dim, its your altenator. Good Luck!! A good battery gives ya peace of mind, regardless.

Yellow Top Optima FTW!!! will hold a bit more electrical probs than a red top. 40 bucks more but i thought it was worth it. Again sounds like a bad ground and with the underdrives and a stock alt isnt helping either.

when i got my redtop, the guy told me the yellow was better, but there was no reason for me to get it...the yellow is more for people with huge stereo systems and such....i then asked if i would have to upgrade when i get mine, he said no, the red top can handle any needs really

There is a reason Ford put a ground on the Engine Itself.

That little thin ground strap from chassis to Driver Head, is whats been starting your starter[:'(], every other ground point is isolated . So run a wire to the block or AC Mount bolt and your good guy.

It might be expensive, but that's what needs to be done. Or you could put the battery back up front if you don't wan't to do it right.

No its not, 2guage or 4guage wire, from your local stereo store @.79 per foot, get 13 feet.

= $10.27 ,

then two connectors @ .60 each.

A 10 minute job at most
