Default Coolant problem

I noticed that my coolant was low so i filled the bottle. After driving for a while i stop and checked under for leaks. There was a flow of coolant under the passanger fire wall. I looked in on the fire wall and there was a hole about a foot down under the heater core hoses. It was open and fluid sitting in it. What is this hole and what goes into it?
Oh yeah i also have no heat so it think this is why.

Thanks.

You got yourself a bad heater core!! Do you smell something sweet while you are driving? This is the culprit and needs to be replaced.

That is the drain hole for any condensation that is formed on the ac/heat coils. It's leakin antifreeze from there cause the heater coils have a leak in them.

It'll be expensive if you have someone else do it... I got a heater core for about $90 from the Ford dealer (after a different dealer told me they couldn't get those in anymore). I read several other people's posts that said don't get the local auto parts store heater core. Here are some links to help do it yourself:

http://home.netcom.com/~skent/mustan...ore/hcore.html
http://www.mustangsteve.com/heatercore.html
http://www.mustangmonthly.com/howto/5652/index.html

Read over those a few times and you'll be able to do it yourself...

the hole is the drain hole for the a/c evaporator case as air passes across the evaporator when the a/c is in use heat is removed and moisture from the air passing across the exchanger condenses on to evaporator and water drips off the coils into the case and out the hole and since the heater core is above that it , a leak in it will allow the cooolant to run out and down to the bottom of the case where the drain hole is....I'd rather have it run out there then on to my carpet[:'(]........and it's a 8 hr job by the books ......so depending on labor rates it could cost you anywhere from 600 to 850 dollars??.........but the complete dash has to come out[:@]

go to Napa with the old one = 30 bucks

labor time = one day bc u'll become inpatient.... a lot of screws

when u get the dash removed, just pry the black box open... (extra set of hands is useful) especially when installing the new one successfully...

have fun!
