Get a 5.0 if you want to mod it and make a really fast car that is basically untouchable.

Get a 4.6 if you want a car that will be respectable with a few bolt ons.

5.0 = most potential/low cost parts

4.6 = better technology, better daily driver.

Comfort = 5.0 =hard to find one at original mint condition interior, but they are out there...
4.6 =Since they are newer the interior should be pristine thus winning this category

Power = 5.0 =With the proper mods, the 5.0 engine is superior to the 4.6 and can smoke em
4.6 =Still a damn good mustang engine but does not have the "muscle car" power

Price = 5.0 =Good ones range from 3000-6000 and up. Mods are pretty well priced
4.6 =Well used ones anywhere from 4000-8000

Winner = 88-93 MUSTANG 5.0!!!!!!

Right now I thouroughly enjoy my Cobra, but I also dearly miss my '91 (351 powered) GT. It's a tough call, I don't think you could go wrong either way. I'm a power/torque junkey, and even though my '91 is gone(RIP), I plan in the future to get another one and rebuild that same car.

In the end, I would have to ask are you mechanically inclined? Do you like to do your own work and learn easily? Do you take pride in having built something yourself? Then the 5.0 is the way to go. On the other hand, while not as easy or cheap to upgrade as the 5.0, the 4.6 aftermarket is coming right along. I just don't know how far it will go now that the 3 valve is out.

I plan on keeping my Cobra forever, but here's my plan: once I pay it off, I will get a 4 cylinder Fox body from somewhere down South, and build the car from the ground up, with the 351 (or 392 stroker) in it. 4 bangers will be cheaper, and less in insurance, and probably in better shape due to not being driven as hard. Plus they're a blank canvas, just waiting for someone to create their own masterpiece...

this is a relative question, you are on the 5.0 forum so thats the response youll get. if you asked on the 4.6 forum everyone would tell you to get a 4.6.

but IMO 5.0s are easy to mod and very forgiving engines. i dont know much about 4.6s except that they rev high and have OHC's lol...

its like asking a mitsubishi dealer what is the best car around, he will tell you a mitsubishi.

personally i like the 5.0, but i never had or modded a 4.6 so i dont know.

i actually did post this on my 4.6 site also. im not very mechanily (sp) enclined but i would like to learn i just bought a new house with a big garage and im getting ready to get my stang, just not sure which one i want yet. i also own a 95 Tbird with 91k on it and a 03 FX4 f150 with 20k on it. so the stang wouldn't be a daily driver car. i want to learn how to do work on a car though and i don't want to spend more then 9k on the car either in the next year. im really leaning twards the 88-93 but i keep hearing how the 4.6 market is catching the 5.0 market and the 4.6 has a lot more potencial. im not sure, just what i hear. also how many miles do you think is too many miles on a fox to buy and start doing mods to?
