ABS ring on axles

RE: ABS ring on axles
I heard the same, Motive is making them. Getting some of them to set up correct is hell. People don't know sometimes what is involved in getting them set up and raise cain about how much you charge. I've had theunit in and out of someso many times my fingers hurt for days from starting the cap bolts. I've drained the grease out of one seven times trying to get it right. Thepinion depth checker was dead on,pattern looked good, and it stillmade all kinds of noise, that was a Richmond 3.55by the way.

[sm=icon_rofl.gif][sm=icon_rofl.gif]I hear you my hands and forearms hurt so bad my son helps me some if you say gear install around him he gets sick and cant work LOL. I put a set of Richmond gears in a Camaro at work one time and they worked out well. But I have been told the Richmond's make noise by many people. I put a set in my wifes stang (my first set) they where National drive line gears and they Hooooowled right in the float stage not on it not in coast. But it is more of a weekend car then any thing (can you say turn up the radio). I just took them out and put in a set of used 331 that set up perfect so I am sure they will make noise LOL.

You bunch of pansies [sm=icon_rofl.gif]... I have set up so many 8.8 gears without much problem. All different ratio and brands. The key to getting them quite is the backlash settings. If the backlash is out of spec the gears will whine like a basterd. Thepinion gear exits the ring gear to far out on the tooth makingthewhine sound. It is actually a high frequency vibration that you cant feel just hear.

What is your magic backlash setting? I vary the backlash setting depending on what type of driving the car will do. Street performance I try to get it .009-.012, street/strip I go .008-.009, and strip only I will go as tight as .005-.007. Somtimes depending on if it howls or the tooth pattern looks bad I will vary that to help get it right. These small differences may not make any difference if they last but the guy that tought me does this and he hasn't had any tear out in some real fast cars. He set his own 9" up in a 7 sec (1/4 mile)Falcon, round tube car with1.00 60' times.

[sm=hail.gif]All the 8.8 God .......... and monkeys will fly out your *** next. I have been setting the gears up as per. spec. of the vendor of the gear. I have been trying to get the back lash a bit tighter on the stick cars and getting a good break in on them. I have only had the one set make noise the first set I put in. My wifes, all the rest have been fine from Richmond to the Dana I did in the Jeep so I must be doing something right.
